A pair of dotterrelsThe NZ dotterrel (or tuturiwhatu) is an endangered shore bird. Photography has to be done with care. In this case I was concealed behind a log in the beach, wearing clothes that would blend in to the sand. This, along with my 300mm f4 lens, allowed me to get quite a nice range of photos.
With this shot, the closer dotterel is walking towards me. By lying down, I'm at its eye level (and don't look threatening). Behind it, is another dotterel.
