Kia ora,
I'm primarily a nature photographer, based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. My academic path however, took me first through two degrees in Zoology. This led me to originally name my website after a family of animals I used to study (the Chthoniidae- an arachnid group). Except that meant nobody could ever find me, because who could remember that even after I told them!
So I renamed the site as the very generic NZ Nature Photos. Which should be much easier to remember :) Photography is a secondary occupation however, as my main work is around wildlife conservation.
I gravitated to photograph the various forest streams and waterfalls around Tāmaki Makaurau. This came to a halt when the rāhui was applied in the Waitakere Ranges to protect the Kauri trees from dieback infections. That led me to change focus to seascape photography. Sometimes living on an Oceanic Island can be a good thing.
While it is also more common for photographers to name their websites after themselves, I've been reluctant to do this. For over 3 years, starting in 2009, I was stalked. The woman was dangerous, delusional and had a bad case of erotomania. I haven't used my real name (or show my full faces) on any public social media since. I prefer to use the pseudonym (or is that pseudophoton?) of Kaimatai instead.
