This is a red-crowned crane, photographed in the Zhalong Nature Reserve in the northern Heilong Jiang Province. This iconic bird is also endangered.

This was a somewhat frustrating expedition as it was part of an official Chinese trip. This meant we had to spend time in Qiqihar first, then had to attend an official presentation at Zhalong. Total time with the red-crowned cranes was 20 minutes.
